The Department of Materials proposes to appoint up to 5 new permanent Research Lecturerships in the fields of manufacturing, energy materials or carbon nanomaterials with effect from 1st October 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. These new posts are part of a strategic expansion of the Materials Department to reinforce research activity in fields of historical strength and also to establish new research groups in areas complementary to existing capabilities. These posts are full time, permanent academic appointments. We are seeking exceptional candidates at an early stage of an academic career who have the potential in the right environment to demonstrate scientific leadership in their field. The salary will be on a scale currently from £42,883 to £57,581 per annum depending upon experience. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Materials Science or a related scientific discipline and be expected to carry out advanced research in one of the areas defined in the Further Particulars for this post and to contribute to teaching in the Department of Materials, including lecturing, examining and graduate supervision, pastoral care of graduate students, and assistance with the administration and organisation of teaching and research.
