Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Molecular Simulation of Nanoporous Materials

A postdoctoral research fellow is required in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham within the research groups of Dr. Elena Bichoutskaia. Applications are invited for the above post to work on a programme entitled “Coordination Chemistry for Energy and Our Sustainable Futures (ChemEnSus)” starting on August 1st 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Our project is concerned with developing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for applications in gas storage and sensing, particularly for applications in the Hydrogen economy. The successful applicants will be part of a five-year research collaboration with Professors Martin Schröder and Neil Champness (School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham), Professor Peter Beton (School of Physics & Astronomy), Professor Bill David (ISIS), Professor Mark Thomas (University of Newcastle).

The successful candidate will investigate modelling of MOF systems and their interactions with guest molecules, notably Hydrogen. The project will involve Monte Carlo simulations, molecular dynamics simulations, and/or quantum chemical calculations of adsorption thermodynamics, diffusion, and catalysis in MOFs and related materials. These positions require a strong background in molecular modeling algorithms and software development. Candidates must have PhD in chemistry, physics or related discipline.

Salary will be within the range £27,183 - £35,469 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £38,757 per annum, subject to performance) - (£26,391 maximum without PhD).  This post will be offered for a period of one year in the first instance.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr. Elena Bichoutskaia, Email: Elena.Bichoutskaia@nottingham.ac.uk.

Candidates should apply online at http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/Jobs/CurrentVacancies/ref/SCI1003

Closing date: 1st July 2011.
